Owned and operated by the Morris Family, Sunriser Stables is a family friendly show barn.  We offer Hunter Jumper horse back riding lessons for ages eight to adult, no prior experience is necessary.  Whether your goal is to show or to ride for fun, we guarantee that you will find a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

Ellen customizes her teaching technique so that each rider has the best lesson possible.

Ellen's passion for horses began as a child. She took her first horse riding lesson for her eighth birthday and was hooked. It did not take long for Ellen to decide to follow a career with horses.  Ellen believes in teaching with positive reinforcement and humor, with a focus on safety, to ensure that her riders have a fun and educational ride.

She graduated from William Woods University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in both Equine Science and Equine Administration. She has ridden with such renowned trainers as Melanie Smith Taylor, Linda Allen, Robert Gage, Kelly McKnight, Jose Alejos, Clinton Anderson, and Pierre St. Jacques.

Ellen adopted two 2013 Off The Track Thoroughbreds from Maker's Mark Secretariat Center in Lexington, KY in late 2016. Both are in training with Ellen to become show Hunters. You can follow their progress on our Facebook page.

Only three miles from the Escambia County Equestrian Center.

Sunriser Stables is located only three miles from the Escambia County Equestrian Center. We attend all local shows.  Horse show clients must take a minimum of two lessons a week to gain enough confidence for the show ring. In addition to riding, you will also learn the skills needed to prepare a horse for the show ring including body clipping, tack cleaning, and show braiding.  You must be approved by the trainer to attend a show.

School horses will not jump higher than two feet. Clients wishing to jump higher must buy a horse or pony to suit their needs.  We board horses for clients who are taking lessons at Sunriser Stables.
