Lessons are customized to the individual’s riding level allowing each rider to progress at their own pace. Our objective is to build the rider's confidence by developing a solid horse riding foundation both under saddle and on the ground. Whether your goal is to show or to ride for fun we guarantee that at Sunriser Stables you will find a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

Introductory Lesson

Sunriser Stables offers an hour long introductory lesson that allows you to meet Ellen, see the facilities, groom and tack a horse/pony, and ride for approximately 30 minutes. During this lesson, you will learn the correct way to lead a horse, how to groom and correctly tack a horse in preparation for riding, how to safely mount and dismount, begin posting the walk in preparation for the trot, and how to steer around obstacles.

We require riders to take at least two lessons per week in order to progress and acquire the skills necessary to become a successful rider.

 Continuing Lessons

All lessons are group riding lessons. Riders arrive 30 minutes prior to their ride time to groom and tack their horse, and stay after their ride to care for their horse. Lessons last approximately two and half hours with one and a half hours in the saddle. It is the rider's responsibility to arrive promptly for their session.

Horse show clients must ride a minimum of two days a week to have enough practice and confidence to go in the show ring. You will also learn the skills needed to prepare a horse for the show ring including mane pulling, body clipping, tack cleaning, show braiding, etc.

Sunriser Stables offers Hunter Jumper horseback riding lessons for ages eight to adult. Our educational programs all have the same goal of creating happy, safe riders on happy, healthy horses.
